This video shows the difference in stopping distances between 30mph and 35mph: 21 feet.
The difference in stopping distance between 20mph and 30mph is 35 feet! If a child runs out 40 feet in front of you, at 20mph you would just stop in time. At 30mph you would hit them still doing 27mph – the equivalent impact speed of dropping them from a 3rd storey window.
